The Kilkee Hell of the West Triathlon was founded in 1985 and is one of the most challenging Irish sports activities taking place in the beautifully scenic coastal area of West Clare. On Sat 23rd June, spectators and competitors alike will flock to this popular seaside town, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, in a grueling attempt to cover a 1500m swim through Kilkee’s immaculate, cool blue waters. A demanding 44k cycle through the famous west coast roads, finished off with an arduous 10k run on the magnificent cliff top ways.  Phew it’s exhausting just typing that!

Kilkee itself, known as the loop head Peninsula boasts a dramatically beautiful golden sandy beach which stretches over one and a half miles.  This Blue Flag beach gives it its unique status of the safest beach in the west coast of Ireland and that is some accolade.   There are some spectacular walks both to the north of the beach where you can explore George's Head (so named as it is said to resemble King George of England himself) and to the south where you can walk for sixteen miles along the cliff to discover Loop Head.  Most of this amazing coastal scenery will be on display for all you athletic enthusiasts during the Hell of the West Triathlon.  How lucky is that!
